Oil Refining

Nafta Capital Refinery operates in two main business segments: refining and trade. In collaboration with Oloreso Petroleum and major refineries in China and Russia, the company boasts a processing capacity of over 11,000 barrels per day. This facility manages Nafta Capital Refinery’s activities, product supply, bio and intermediate feedstock, and gas logistics. The company manufactures petrochemicals and other commodities, running three competitive inland refineries with an annual capacity of 10 million tonnes in Russia and China. 

The company is enhancing its catalytic cracking catalysts with assistance from scientists at the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences’ Institute for Issues of Hydrocarbon Processing. The Kazakhstan Institute of Catalysis is responsible for developing hydro-process catalysts. Kazakhstani scientists have previously developed catalysts for hydrotreating middle distillates, enabling the production of sulfur-free products that meet all Euro-5 specifications. Recently, the company’s refining operations have focused on meeting market demand for premium petroleum products.  

Refinery improvements over time have allowed Nafta Capital Refinery to increase product variety, enhance product quality, and become more competitive. This modernization marks a significant milestone in Kazakhstan’s history. During the program’s implementation, the company produced environmental class K5 motor fuels at a 100% rate for Kazakhstan’s domestic market in accordance with TR TS 013/2017 Technical Regulations. Since 2018, many of the company’s refineries have begun producing AI-95-K5 Euro-6 and AI-100-K5 motor gasoline with improved operational and environmental characteristics. 

The refinery produces a range of products including liquid paraffin, aromatics, roofing and insulating materials, high-quality bitumen, jet fuel, roofing materials, diesel fuel, and other petroleum products. Nafta Capital Refinery expands its industrial facilities annually, and is designing a tiered process flow diagram innovation plan to enhance industrial and environmental safety, improve petroleum product quality, and reduce operating expenses. The company aims to achieve a synergistic impact by modifying the composition of raw materials and reordering component flows throughout its refineries. 

Nafta Capital Refinery employs efficiency management and operational expenditure optimization methodologies, along with better control over investment program implementation and timetable optimization of refinery support project implementation. These measures are expected to have a positive influence. To ensure this potential is realized, a strategy for implementing the Nafta Capital Refinery integration synergy has been developed and approved. Successful implementation of this strategy will significantly increase the efficiency of the oil refinery block. By the end of 2024, the refinery is expected to have processed 5 million tons of crude oil, confirming its dominance in Kazakhstan refining volumes.
